Team 200 - Team MtnSubi - Rebelle Rally 2025

#200

Team MtnSubi

Carey and Andrea met and became fast friends during the 2021 Rebelle Rally. They are teaming up for the second time this year, proudly supported by Subaru of America in a 2025 Forester Hybrid. Carey and Andrea are stoked to take on whatever challenges the Rebelle Rally has for them this year as Team MtnSubi!
Carey is back for her 5th year as the Driver for Team MtnSubi. She is a proud mom of 2, and is a passionate Subaru offroad enthusiast who loves to share her knowledge with the off-road community. She hosts trail runs and skills clinics to show how capable these vehicles are and to ensure basic trail etiquette knowledge is passed along to new trail users.
Andrea Shaffer is back for her 9th year competing, 2nd year with Team MtnSubi, and is an “Original Rebelle.” She lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she has lived since she was 3. She is a proud mom to 3 kids, is an educator at her kids’ school, and is a vinyl sticker and decal business owner. She’s been married to her husband Michael since 2005, and they enjoy getting outside with their kids, camping and off-roading. Some of her favorite adventures, besides the Rebelle Rally, have been her trips to Alaska, Canada and Moab.

Prior Years Competed:

2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

What are your competition objectives and why?

My competition objectives are the same as each prior year: we run our own rally with these priorities in order: 1. Be a good teammate, 2. Help others, and then 3. Be competitive.

What makes you tick, outside of work?

I love spending time in big landscapes, from the open deserts, sand dunes, high mountain passes, and deep forests of the western US. I find it greatly fulfilling to push my Subaru to its limits and help others learn about off-roading their AWD.

What is your background in motorsports, and how does that shape how you're approaching the Rebelle?

I walked into Rebelle 2021 with minimal motorsports exposure. The experience pushed me to chase knowledge—about my vehicle, off-road techniques, and the fears I’d avoided. Since then, I’ve fallen into a love of all things off-road and made deliberate, ongoing growth a habit: learning, practicing, and sharpening my approach every season.

Which terrain is your favorite part of the course and why?

Sand dunes! It's the most intimidating terrain, but also the most exhilarating to successfully navigate and conquer. Who can resist making rainbows on the dunes?!

What is the most challenging part of the Rally for you?

The most challenging part of the Rebelle is when it ends. It's a difficult experience to describe, but it provides a unique opportunity to disconnect from the juggles of life and focus on one set of objectives. The bonds formed during the Rebelle are unlike any other, and the time we spend together is so special.

How has the rally changed you and what made you want to come back?

The rally gave me real self-confidence in learning new things and a habit of continuous improvement. I come back for the ongoing opportunities to test, refine, and expand what I know, plus the camaraderie and feedback from the Rebelle community that keep pushing me to be steadier, smarter, and more resilient.

Andrea Shaffer

Navigator

Andrea Shaffer, OG & 8x Rebelle navigator, mother, wife, daughter and sister whose passion & determination know no limits. A competitor who strives to generously share her knowledge & expertise of offroading & navigation.

Residence:

Las Vegas, NV

If you attended college or University where did you go and what was your major?

University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Communication

Favorite Quote:

"It’s better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for who you’re not."

Fun Fact:

Pineapple is my favorite pizza topping.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?

The better question is why not the Rebelle? This year will be my 9th time competing, always as a navigator, and the things I learn and experience each year help mold me into a better person.

Who, or what, inspires you most?

Those that never give up. The ones that fight through whatever circumstances life has given them.

Which terrain is your favorite part of the course and why?

Anything that has aspen trees, those are my favorite!

What is the most challenging part of the Rally for you?

As a navigator, the hardest part for me is when we wide miss. It has taken me a long time to figure out how to brush it off and move on with the day.

How has the rally changed you and what made you want to come back?

The rally has given me some of my best friends, without whom, I wouldn't be who I am. They push me daily to be a better version of myself. Coming back each year makes me a better wife, mom, friend and coworker.
