10TH RALLY EDITION: OCTOBER 8 – 18, 2025

#101

Fun-Duh-Mentals

This is the first year Vento and Woodward are teaming up even though they’ve known each other and competed against each other for years. Both bring vast experience driving and co-driving/navigating into the 10th Anniversary Rebelle Rally and are thrilled to be putting that experience together on the course. Vento and Woodward have admired each other from afar and now they get to compete together for the 10th rally. What a dream scenario.

Lyn Woodward

Driver

While they may not be the sexiest sounding personality traits, I relish that my friends, to whom I am fiercely loyal, call me reliable and capable. I'm also good with a joke to lighten a mode and might be the best hype man you'll ever have.

What is your occupation and what does that mean to you?

Being a writer was a dream of mine since I was a teenager. It sounded so glamorous as a girl but for the longest time I never thought I was smart enough. That I've made a successful and award-winning career out of being a writer sometimes feels unreal.

Los Angeles, CA

If you attended college or University where did you go and what was your major?

California State University, Long Beach

Favorite Quote:

""Oh, no," Phoebe Buffay"

Fun Fact:

When I was a child I was an actor on television commercials and shows. Check out old episodes of the Waltons for a look at baby Lyn.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?

It's the TENTH ANNIVERSARY! Do you even know how massive the FOMO would be if I wasn't out there with all my girls???

Who, or what, inspires you most?

Successful, ambitious people who work hard inspire me. I love watching someone who's put hard work into something, been knocked down but gotten back up and made it. I want to be one of those people when I grow up.

Top three favorite podcasts / books / shows

Frankenstein, Mary Shelley; Derry Girls

Greatest adventure to date?

Ask me again once I've been on safari next year.

Prior Years Competed:

What are your competition objectives and why?

Renee and I have the skills to win it and we believe we can. We plan on competing hard, having fun and showing ourselves what we're capable ot.

What makes you tick, outside of work?

When I'm not writing, though that is a passion of mine even outside of work, I love playing the guitar, which I just picked up last year. I've started sewing clothes and made my first garment from a pattern this year. When I retire I can't wait to pick up film photography again and play Stevie Nicks songs in the flowy, witchy caftans I make myself.

What is your background in motorsports, and how does that shape how you're approaching the Rebelle?

Always a fan of the outdoors, I came to motorsports later in my life. I started off-roading as part of my profession -- automotive journalist. I was invited to compete in the Rebelle in that capacity for The Drive and had no clue what I was getting into. After that experience I pushed myself hard to become a better driver, navigator and teammate.

What kind of cool experiences do you have outside of the Rebelle?

In addition to driving in the Rebelle Rally, I've driven and co-driven in many classic car rallies in a 1967 Porsche 912 I restored myself. I've also done the Modena Cento Ore, an Italian classic car rally in a Jaguar C-type. I love to travel and next year am heading off to my lifelong dream trip and going on safari in Tanzania.

Which terrain is your favorite part of the course and why?

When we're let loose on a wide open dirt road and I'm told by my navigator I can give it the beans, I'm the happiest woman live.

What is the most challenging part of the Rally for you?

Leaving the mistakes in the rearview has to be the toughest thing for me as a competitor. I hate letting people down and when I make a mistake or done operate at my best I feel as though I'm letting down the most important person, my teammate.

How has the rally changed you and what made you want to come back?

This event put me on the map as an automotive journalist. When I did my first story and video about the Rebelle my peers, automotive PR people, and other editors started to take notice. It was a like a tequila shot to my career and I'll be grateful for that rookie experience, regardless of how tough it was, forever.

Do you have any memorable moments with cars?

I feel in love with cars at an early age. My father owned several classic cars including two Porsche 356 Speedsters. Those both captivated my attention and I loved riding in them. I've noticed cars on the streets of Los Angeles where I grew up and have enjoyed the rolling car show ever since. My first car wasn't special, a 1977 Datsun B210 wasn't exactly turning heads, but it meant independence and freedom and I drove it until it died.

What is your occupation and what does that mean to you?

Why the Rebelle? Why now?

The Rebelle challenges us in ways one can not describe, brings back to life parts of us that may have been hibernating and expands us in ways we may never have expected. It (if you allow it) brings you into one of the greatest communities I have had the good fortune to know. All that while simultaneously removing us from life chaoses that we all feel far to dependent on. So any opportunity I have to Rebelle I will!

Who, or what, inspires you most?

Those that keep at their dreams and goals, without complaint when it things don't go their way. But instead press on.

What are your competition objectives and why?

My team mate Lyn are striving to finish this rally with our heads held high, knowing whole-heartedly that we gave the rally and our sponsors every single available ounce of ourselves, (and then some) as we possible could, Ideally on the podium.

What makes you tick, outside of work?

I love to play! I am an avid; skier, surfer and mtn biker. I am also a competitive equestrian and ride dirt bikes. So, yeah being outside is my jam. Even at my age I am still trying to improve on all the above...

What is your background in motorsports, and how does that shape how you're approaching the Rebelle?

I began off roading at 16. And grew up with parents who love cars. I started navigating when I was an outings guide in college (taking people backpacking for extended periods of time, on snow, using map and compass). So that history as a guide really helped me to settle into the Navigator role as a Rebelle.

What kind of cool experiences do you have outside of the Rebelle?

Oh gosh! in my previous career I traveled the world photographing the most impressive reefs and turquoise waves! I have skied and surfed ALL over and have sailed through the air on a 2 ton horse. I have built homes, and eaten bugs, slept on mtn tops and remote, desolate beaches.

Which terrain is your favorite part of the course and why?

Man, I don't know! The higher elevations with the insane views. Or the secret spots the Jimmy and Emily surprise us with.

What is the most challenging part of the Rally for you?

The cold early mornings of the first few days or maybe not pooping for days on end while trying to sit comfortably in a constantly moving vehicle. Now couple that with the smell of our hair after say day 5 of wearing a helmet. LOL

How has the rally changed you and what made you want to come back?

The first year I competed I was in a very low place. I had NO idea what I was getting into. I signed up I believe14 days prior to start. The Rally truly takes you out of your daily comfortable life and wakes you up. Shakes you up really. Very few people will willingly subject themselves to this type of challenge, repeatedly. The Rally has taught me that I can get through it. Whatever it is. If I want to. And most the time in life we get back what we put in. The Rally reinforces that each year. The accomplishment when you cross that finish line is a reward unlike nothing else. Even on a 'bad' year being on rally is better than not.

Do you have any memorable moments with cars?

So many! My sisters and I started on the Rubicon in our teens as we lived close to the trail head- many laughable and scary moments come to mind. In 2006 I had the great fortune to drive the featured car in the California Miglia Mille. As of recent I am a 7 year Rebelle- that is a HUGE highlight to me!

Vehicle

2025 Jeep Gladiator Mojave
It doesn't get any better than the Jeep Gladiator Mojave for the Rebelle Rally. It's perfect sized, plenty of utility and space but not too big with an unwieldy breakover angle for tight spots. The suspension on the Mojave smooths out washboard for quicker transits and slays in the dunes. We couldn't be more thrilled to be partnering with Jeep and Pennzoil to keep our engine running smoothy in the heat of Glamis under all the pressure of competition. To get the job done you have to have the best tools -- with the Gladiator and Pennzoil, we think we've got a winning combination.
