Peg and Char are sisters who live in Arizona. They have shared many adventures over the years, including riding motocross as kids and sailing around the British Virgin Islands. Last year after Peg’s original navigator was dealing with double hurricane damage to her home, Char was asked to step into the role of navigator just 4 days before the competition began. After an initial *panic* moment, Char packed a bag, showed up and learned on the fly how to find checkpoints, empty her boots of sand, and “throw it in the backseat” when things didn’t go as planned. This year, Char has had more time to prepare, and she and Peg are ready to take on the challenges of the Rebelle as only sisters can. They’re bringing their love of adventure, their shared history, and their senses of humor along for the ride. The only thing this team has not yet agreed on is who is the Sugar and who is the Spice. They both agree that their younger sister is Mom’s favorite.

I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious. (Einstein)

I am hooked on this game that pushes people at every level to stretch themselves in every way; pushing passed the physical, mental, and emotional limits they may have perceived.
People taking on difficult challenges and pushing themselves beyond their own expectations. Whether in my rallies of 2023, 2024, and throughout training in 2025, I have been inspired by the courage of Rebelle Rally competitors, the innovation of the Rally leadership team, and the dedication of the Rally staff in so many ways. Competitors challenge themselves to go beyond their physical, mental, and emotional limits; staff always right there when you need a smile and encouragement; and rally leadership designing a course to challenge all competitors.

There are so many ... I learned to push myself physically and mentally while participating in training exercises for an Africa mountaineering trip: first, carrying all the climbing and camping gear out of the Grand Tetons when my climbing partner was injured; and then being weathered off Mount Rainer during a winter ascent (no visibility, no tracks just compass all the way down to Camp Muir). Every day is an opportunity for adventure.

Enjoying the process of the unknown unfolding. Learn from every moment - the highs and the lows. Better time management to reduce penalties.
Adventure and everything outside! Driving random roads, dog walks, hiking, sailing trips, etc -- the list is long. Creative talents -- none -- my sisters received all those genes.
No real background in motorsports at all -- for me the vehicles (motorcycles, cars, trucks, boats) were always a way to get to the adventures - whether moto-cross, hiking/overlanding , or sailing. As a result, you have to understand the vehicle - how it works and how to repair when necessary. I especially like preparing the vehicle and training for the unknown -- which is the Rebelle Way.
I have had a life full of great adventures - sailing regattas in the Caribbean top the list because of the intense team camaraderie.
I have two favorites - sand dunes and slot canyons. Driving in the dunes is exhilarating and finding checkpoints feels impossible - and then surprise you find the CP! Slot canyons are just such a great reminder of nature's impressive work -- the exposed geology is always stunning.
Time management and pacing is the most challenging for me. It's really tough to "give up" and move on when chasing a CP. We are going to try setting a timer this year.
The rally has opened doors to a sport I never imagined. I intend to participate in other types of rallies next year.
While training for the 2023 Rebelle I needed to practice driving enduros - so I printed out a couple of enduro routes near my home asked my 85 year old mother to sit in the navi seat to help. I did not know she had done stage rallies in the 1960s! Reading the tulip notes was a breeze and we had such a great time!
I retired after 30 years of working in a hospital laboratory though I often find myself busier than ever. Recently I have enjoyed taking my 4 grandkids paddle boarding on the Salt River a few times during the summer. We also spent several days at the water park together, as well as zip lining over the Out of Africa Zoo.

"Blessed are the curious, for they shall have adventures." — Lovelle Drachman
My husband and I were foster parents for 15 years, and welcomed over 75 kids into our home in that time. Being a foster parent taught me to be flexible, to adapt in unexpected circumstances, and to operate on little sleep.
What started last year as a way to help my sister out of a tough spot has turned into a way for me to prove to myself that I can do hard things.
My sisters are my biggest source of inspiration. My older sister Peg will try anything, then apply whatever it takes to master the task. Motocross, hiking (including Kilimanjaro), ice climbing, mountain climbing, motorcycle riding, sailing for leisure and on regatta teams. Now the Rebelle! My younger sister Paula is an amazing mother. She put herself through law school and is now a judge. She has had some health challenges and has tackled them with grit and grace. Now she shines as a grandmother of 2, and her third will be joining the world during the Rebelle this year!
I love to read, and often forget I have my headphones in as I listen to audiobooks while I go about my day. David Balducci, C. J. Box, Janet Evanovich are few of my favorite authors. If I’m watching TV, it is probably one about animal care and surgery, like Dr. Pol.
The Rebelle 2024!
2024
I am approaching this year's Rebelle with three goals in mind: 1. Finish each day smiling and having fun with my sister. 2. Improve our time management. 3. To get to the finish line with more points and less penalties.
I really enjoy quilting and sewing fun projects. I like to add pops of color to make things beautiful, including on my amazing dog, Gordie Howe. He is a large golden doodle, but with dog hair dye he has become a giraffe, Tigger, and a Lisa Frank-inspired rainbow spotted leopard. He is currently a purple zebra who delights the neighborhood as we take our daily walks.
I had my first motorcycle at 11 years old. I did motor cross for a while, my favorite was barrel racing.
The coolest experience I have had is seeing my kids grow into really good people.
My favorite terrain is the sand dunes. The sand dunes are challenging but beautiful as they change all the time. Being able to look at the terrain in the distance and find the checkpoint is really rewarding. Leapfrogging through the dunes with another team makes for a super fun day.
The most challenging part of the Rebelle for me was finding out I was going to compete 4 days before the race in 2024. Disconnecting was easier the I imagined it would be. Bouncing back was hard on the first day of the competition (I secretly cried in my tent). It helped when I found out that almost everyone had timed out all day. Peg kept repeating, "throw it in the backseat. Just go forward."
I realized I was tougher and stronger than I imagined I was or could be.
My first time driving alone in a car was at 16; I was so nervous I stalled the engine trying to make a left turn. It took me three traffic light cycles to get through the 2 lane intersection. The older couple I was blocking was applauding when I finally made it through the light. I mastered that clutch and 3 on the column by the end of that day.
