Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I've competed twice before and didn't expect to compete this year. I jumped at the chance when the opportunity was presented.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I am most inspired by my mother. She was the toughest woman I knew and was a fighter to the very end. She was my biggest cheerleader and taught me to face challenges head on.

Team Biography

Navigator Raelynn Roderick selflessly volunteers her time to a local animal rescue in her home town of Prescott Arizona. Raelynn among other things is a foster for rescued dogs. One night early 2024 the unthinkable happened to Raelynn, a Fosters worst nightmare. One of the dogs got out and was running freely on the streets of town. It was dark, a very cold night and Archie, a dog Raelynn planned to adopt herself was missing. Socal Media Posts went out immediately asking fellow Fosters, Rescues, Trapers anyone to come help search for Archie. Team Charity Case who is a Prescott Based 501c3 Nonprofit who is engaged in supporting thr many local shelters and rescues got word of the incident. Kristine Wilder founder with another Team Charity Case member grabbed dog treats, leashes, and their flashlights and headed to the area. Many were searching the area including Founder of Team Charity Case Kristine Wilder. Word came over that Archie had be found but was hit by a car. Raelynn was distraught as anyone could imagine and headed to the Emergency Animal Hospital where the people who had struck Archie had taken him. The ER Animal Hospital was the first time Navigator Raelynn and Driver Kristine met and it was under horrendous circumstances. The Doctor told Raelynn that Archie was in critical condition and things did not look promising. Team Charity Case Founder Kristine offered to help more by covering the medical expenses of the ER but Raelynn and her husband believed they had it handled. Kristine and everyone else left Raelynn and her husband at the ER Animal Hospital and went home scared and worried for Archie. About 45 minutes passed and Kristine received a text message asking if the offer to help Archie was still available. Kristine said of course. Turns out the ER Doctor informed Raelynn that it would be just under $8000 to merely stabilize Archie and monitor him overnight. Otherwise saying goodbye to Archie was the alternative and recommendation. Team Charity Case informed the ER Animal Hospital that whatever the cost it would be paid and to take every measure to save Archie. Raelynn is a volunteer and foster for the local rescue and Kristine supports the rescues so this was a no brainer. Archie pulled through and has made a full recovery. Raelynn adopted Archie and the two are inseparable. Raelynn has participated in the Rebelle Rally the last 2 years. 2024 however Raelynn had no driver and was was not planning participate in the Rebelle Rally. Somehow an opening for this year’s rally was shared with Raelynn. She didn’t have a vehicle or driver but she loves the Rally almost as much as Archie. She was talking to a Team Charity Case member and mentioned the opening and was passively talking about how she wished she could do the rally and the person went to Team Charity Case Founder Kristine and flat out asked, “hey you know that volunteer we helped a wile ago with the dog? Wanna do a Rally with her? Team Charity Case sponsors, she navigates and you Kristine drive? Whatcha think?? Kristine said HELL YEA!! The rest is history. Team Charity Case a nonprofit who helps animal rescues is teaming up with a rescue volunteer who happens to be the volunteer Team Charity Case helped out earlier that year. Even better, the 2022 Jeep 392 Rubicon is named Goodwin. Carol Goodwin was an animal advocate and incredibly active in trapping and releasing cats and dedicated her life to animal rescues and finding homes for the shelter animals. Carol Goodwin passed away a year ago. It was only fitting to honor Carol Goodwin by naming the Jeep after her. Team 101 is made up of a person who volunteers for animal rescues, another person who’s nonprofit supports animal rescues and the Jeep is named after a woman who dedicated her life to saving shelter animals. Namely cats. Team 101 dedicates this Rally to the many volunteers and organizations helping to save and improve the lives of animals.

Fun fact about yourself: I live a double life: it's either full glam or dirty. When I am not playing in the dirt and rocks with my Jeep, I am the bar manager at the renowned fine dining restaurant in Seattle, Copine (co-peen). We were honored to be nominated nationally in the top 5 by the James Beard Foundation for Outstanding Restaurant 2023.
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: At the beginning of this journey, I was enthusiastic about off-roading but didn't know what to do with that passion. My main focus was to get outside and spend time with my kid to show him that being a "mom" doesn't just mean taking care of his needs constantly. It is setting an example of living your life to the fullest and achieving your goals.This passion for off-roading turned into a mission to represent women in the motorsport realm with integrity and poise. The Rebelle Rally is the perfect platform to demonstrate that mission and "put my money where my mouth is."
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I am inspired by conquering obstacles and helping other off-roaders (namely women) recognize that they too can climb any obstacle, given the amount of preparation, willingness, and skill they have put into their journey.

I much prefer a long drive in the wilderness with the top off, wind in my hair, and music loud. A playlist might include Tom Petty, Brandi Carlile, and for some reason Rick Ross sounds great in the desert driving fast!
Greatest adventure to date?: During the pandemic, I packed up my (at the time) 4 year old boy, Hawk, and puppy and we drove the Jeep to Moab for 2 weeks and camped and explored all the trails. It was EPIC. We talk about that trip to this day. Also, I deserve mom-props for being in a 2 door Jeep with all our camping stuff for that long. What an adventure!

Greatest adventure to date?: The Rebelle Rally! I competed last year and completely fell in love with the format, the staff, the competitors and the entire experience. I'm excited to continue the adventure again this year.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: It seems like every couple or few years I'm compelled to do some kind of Big Thing: a couple examples being all of my international moves and a year traveling around Australia in a Wrangler with a rooftop tent. My partner Dana texted me with the idea to do Rebelle at the perfect time when I was starting to think about another Big Thing. I also just love the idea of Rebelle...so cool that it is a competitive sporting event based on precision and strategy rather than physical ability.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: When normal, everyday people grit up and do tough things!!

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I realized all the ways I've challenged myself in the past has been by applying my expertise to adjacent areas. I hadn't pick up something completely new in quite a while. Simultaneously, my husband was consistently talking to me about Rebelle Rally competitors he'd heard on podcasts. Call it inception...but those 2 factors have led me to my rookie debut in the 2024 competition.

We, Karen and Dana have been friends since our daughters were 6 and they are now 36! We just clicked as teammates our first year and never thought about doing the rally with anyone else. Back in 2019, Serena and Kirstin met in passing at a professional event for the offroad industry at King of the Hammers.

Based on that chance meeting, Kirstin wandered into SDHQ on a Friday afternoon and said, “Hey – not sure if you remember me, but….do you want to do the Rebelle Rally in 2023?” Serena wasn’t immediately in, and went with a firm, “I’ll think about it and let you know.”

Needless to say, Serena decided she was in.

Depending on how you define success, you might say that Team 110 had a successful run in 2023. That is to say, they had a lot of fun, and learned a ton, despite some…tire challenges (and changes).

They’re back this year with a vengeance.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: After finally fulfilling my dream of completing the Rebelle last year, I knew that my Rebelle days were far from over. I wasn't sure if Hanna felt the same way, but after crossing the finish line last year she looked at me and almost immediately said "So, we're doing that again." During our Rookie Year, our major goal was to cross the finish line. This time around, we're looking to looking to beat our own scores from last year.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Dolly Parton & Miss Piggy. They are 2 strong women who truly embrace who they are. Sure, one is a songwriter and a philanthropist and one karate chops those she finds moderately annoying, but they are both inspiring in their own ways. I strive to live a life that can make them both proud.

Greatest adventure to date?: The 2023 Rebelle and all of the preparation it took to get there. Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Marie and I had the adventure of a lifetime together during our rookie year last year, and knew almost immediately after crossing the finish line that we had to do it all over again this year with more experience, more confidence, and more practice.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My partner, Mike, inspires me so much! He is the biggest source of inspiration when it comes to challenging myself and setting my sights on new goals. There’s nothing he can’t do, and it makes me want to constantly improve and push myself to be the best version of whatever it is I’m pursuing.

Greatest adventure to date?: It’s a tie between the 2023 Rebelle and when I backpacked throughout Southeast Asia. I studied abroad in Can Tho, Vietnam for half a year and then backpacked throughout Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. It was a pivotal moment in my early 20s that allowed me to form a deeper connection with my Vietnamese identity and have the adventure of a lifetime.

The B3 Rebelles are back!

Team #113 is back to tackle more checkpoints, do more Enduro math, and make more amazing memories.

Hanna, Marie, and Bernard (aka: The Boss, The Bulldozer, and Bernard) first became a team when Marie asked Hanna if she wanted to join her in an adventure that they had no real previous training for. Like a champ, Hanna said “yes” and they had a blast during the 2023 Rebelle. Now they are once again headed to the start line.

Watching last year's competition from the (online) sidelines, I really felt that this was something I need to do. To name just a few reasons (besides adventure), I wanted to learn/hone new skills, get better at trusting my own instincts, and to work on being more decisive. And the thought of being off-grid for 8+ days, while challenging, sounds amazing.

Team Biography

Stacy and Steph work together at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). They started around the same time, right before COVID shutdown. Learning a new job during quarantine was tough, but they supported each other along the way and became friends.

Stacy and Steph also bonded over their love of dogs. Stacy has a German Shepherd named Jax and Steph has a German Shepherd/Husky mix named Abbie. They often exchange dog stories and pictures via text. Fun fact – the first time they met in person (after working together for two years), Stacy recognized Abbie before she recognized Steph!

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 - I sit here drinking coffee looking in awe the Sierra Nevada Mountains, on the backside of Tahoe. Everyone is still sleeping. In 2.5 hrs I will be heading to Carson Tahoe Cancer Center for my last infusion. A year ago, I was sitting here doing the exact same thing. Anxious sipping on my coffee, pumped with steroids to heed of any allergic reactions, in anticipation of my first round of chemo. Wondering to myself if coffee was a good choice, if I would be throwing it back up a few hours later.What a year it’s been….mentally, physically, relationships have strengthen, some have faded, tears, sickness, strength, exhaustion, but most importantly hope.Hope of ringing that bell, signaling the last treatment, ending this journey and closing this chapter. Thanking my doctors and nurses for their care and kindness. Hugging my darling husband, who has been my forever NorthStar.Walking out in the cold air, leaving the cancer center behind. Now it’s time to rebuild, not only my strength, my immunity, but a new me. I am not the same woman. I wouldn’t say I didn’t live life to fullest before. I played hard but there’s been a shift, I have been given a gift. Awareness and time and I’m going use it to help others that are battling and navigating through Breast Cancer too.I have decided to race in the Rebelle Rally, the first women’s off-road navigation rally raid in the United States. It’s been on my radar for nine years. I had always thought I didn’t have the experience and the right skill set. It is the ultimate challenge of precise navigation and the Rebelle tests your skills over 8 days of competition. It is not a race for speed, but rather a unique and demanding event based on the elements of headings, hidden checkpoints, time, and distance using only maps, compass, and roadbooks. I am seizing this challenge by the balls but I can’t do it alone as it’s a two female gig. I couldn’t think of a better co-pilot in this insane rally, Jordan Keeth. More importantly, Jordan and I will be racing for a cause. Racing for Racks! This year it's predicted that 297,790 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. So we will be using this opportunity to raise funds for B4BC, Boarding 4 Breast Cancer, a non-profit foundation dedicated to prepare young people with the education of early detection, promote the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle as the best means of breast cancer prevention, and provide survivor support for those affected by breast cancer. We will be rookies in the Rebelle Rally. Our team name, "Besties 4 Breasties”. We have a 10 months to prepare for this and truly hoping to create some amazing memories, find epic sponsorships / donations, make new friends, and push ourselves to the limit. For now we are saving and using our own personal funds to build our rig (more on that later)…But foremost building awareness and support for B4BC. I decided to race in the Rebelle Rally, after being diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer. The Rebelle had been on my radar for nine years.I had always thought I didn’t have the experience and the right skill set but then again you gotta start somewhere right? When the thought of my life being taken away, well, you don’t wait or miss opportunities.

So seizing the challenge by the balls but I needed a partner. I couldn’t think of a better co-pilot in this insane rally, one of my best friends Jordan Keeth.

Jordan loves adventures as much as I do and I knew she wouldn’t even hesitate when asked. She obviously didn’t.

More importantly, Jordan and I will be racing for a cause. We are racing for Racks! This year it’s predicted that 297,790 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I love driving trucks off-road and navigation. With as much travel as we do, including international travel, learning the skill of navigation will be helpful in the future. After reading about the Rebelle Rally 5 years ago, I immediately wanted to do it. Now that my children are grown it's the perfect time for my highly competitive nature (to a fault) to do the Rebelle Rally.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I see people do cool things which may inspire me to want to try/do them. I wouldn't say any one person inspires me the most. But in this past year, I have gotten to know many special people to me, but there are two who have truly inspired me and hold a special place in my heart—Laura Moore and Holly Casey, aka Team BAGS.

Greatest adventure to date?: Greatest adventure is HARD. I've been on MANY. Narrowing it down to one would be possibly overlanding Baja in our two older Land Rovers. During that month, we had truck break downs, truck fire, police shake-downs and impounding of trucks, bribes/payoffs, sickness, truck recoveries and some of the most fun I've ever had with my husband and three close friends. It's a trip I will never forget.

Danielle’s introduction to the Rebelle Rally came through an article her husband, Brice, discovered in Overland Journal. Inspired by her passion for outdoor adventures, especially after a lengthy overlanding trip from Mississippi through Baja, Danielle aspired to participate in the Rebelle Rally.

Her challenge would be finding another woman with the same passion for off-road adventure, as her experiences had predominantly been with male groups. This changed when she crossed paths with Cara’s husband, Matt, on an overlanding trip, setting the stage for Danielle to connect with another like-minded adventurer.

Danielle and Cara’s eventual meeting at an off-road park in Arkansas marked the beginning of a connection between the two.
Bonding over their love for overlanding and off-road adventures, Danielle was eager to share her dream of participating in the Rebelle Rally.

To Danielle’s delight, Cara was filled with excitement about the possibility of competing. As they gravitated toward each other, the foundation was laid for a partnership that would not only explore the rugged terrains in their off-road vehicles throughout the country but also conquer the challenges of the Rebelle Rally together, turning a distant dream into an exciting shared reality.

Team Biography

We are very excited to participate in the upcoming Rebelle Rally. But how did we get together as a team? Magna decided to sponsor two teams in the Rally this year and we separately applied for one of the spots on the teams. We had to submit a short video detailing why we believe to be a good fit for the rally and why we would want to participate in such a challenging event. It was impressive to see how many talented and motivated women at Magna applied for these spots. Long story short – we were selected to be on one of the Magna teams. However, up until now, at the time we are writing this team bio, we have only met online. Virtual meetings and video chats have allowed us to get to know each other better, exchange ideas, and develop strategies. Why the Rebelle? Why now?: The first time I signed up for the Rebelle in 2021, it was for the experience of a lifetime and to prove that I could finish the Rebelle Rally. I found myself signing up again in 2022 after I realized that I had a bit of fear of missing out complex going on and wanted to begin to understand the ultimate chess game known as the Rebelle a little bit better. I skipped signing up for the 2023 Rebelle because I wanted some space to work on myself and do some healing. Luckily I was able to help the Sol Seekers #201 team with their social media during the Rally and had a great time writing my daily musings! And now here I am, in 2024 signed up for my third Rebelle… After I signed up for some more Type 2 Rebelle fun, the universe decided to throw some monkey wrenches at me and made me reevaluate my goals for this year’s rally. When the universe tells you to stop, reevaluate and pivot, you listen. The lessons that the rally teaches each of us are part of why I keep coming back. Only time will reveal what this year’s rally has to teach me!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I’m most inspired by nature and the beauty and inner strength that can be found in the great outdoors!

My favorite book series is the Harry Potter series. I’m a bit of a nerd so it’s not a surprise that my favorite shows are “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” and “How It’s Made”.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: My partner asked me to be her navigator. It is something I haven't experienced before and I could manage it financially and with work so figured why not.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Watching my kids achieve the goals they set out for. Watching them decide to do something, then work for it, then achieve it. Watching the entire cycle and watching them grow in their crafts over the years is a special treat and a reminder that we are all capable of more then we think.

Greatest adventure to date?: Climbing 3 of the 5 volcanoes in Washington State. Hope to climb the remaining 2 within the next couple of years.

Team Biography

Briana and Lisa met in 2006 as San Diego State University geology students, Go Aztecs! Our class was a tight knit group that went on a lot of field mapping trips, and we got the opportunity to know each other well. Although they both have a love of rocks, hiking and volcanoes, Lisa eventually moved onto mining engineering while Briana forged ahead with geology. After finishing school, these two ended up moving to different states and continued to keep in touch. Lisa now owns her own mining consulting company and is excited to bring her expertise in working with maps to the Rally! These ladies still get together every couple of years with some of their geology classmates for trips to explore National Parks. These two have always gotten along well and have a great time when they get together. Briana had been asking Lisa for several years if she would be interested in competing in the Rebelle with her and this time she said yes! This is Briana’s 3rd year competing in the Rebelle after taking the 2023 rally off. These two are excited to team up and see what 2024 has in store!

Team Biography

Susan Pieper and Tony Warner, the team sponsor, have known each other for years through the automotive aftermarket world. Susan was also a customer of Tony’s other company, Mercedes-Benz Van Center—Warner. Tony had always respected the Rebelle Rally as a proving ground, not just for the competitors but also for the vehicles. In late 2023, after securing the INEOS Automotive dealership in Utah, Tony knew the Grenadier would be perfect for the Rally and asked Susan to assemble a team. Knowing Elise Young from past Rebelle Rallies and sharing a mutual respect for each other’s careers and hobbies (hunting, fly fishing, skiing), Susan invited Elise to join the team.

The team name, “Grins and Grit,” embodies the Grenadier’s story of resilience and toughness (“grit”). At the same time, we believe that anything worth doing should be approached with a smile.

The full “Grins and Grit” team includes key members like Todd Kunkel, Clayton Wilde, and Mike Reed, along with their vehicle, “Helga.” Together, they’re excited to make their debut at the 2024 Rally, representing both INEOS and Warner INEOS Grenadier.

Greatest adventure to date?: After graduating college, I lived in Madagascar for three months working for a nonprofit. We planted trees, built a well and built a school! We camped in the jungle the entire trip, played with lemurs and chameleons, avoided boas, swam in amazing waters, and fully embraced the experience. It was a fantastic adventure that I will never forget!

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Why the Rebelle? This all started for us back in 2018! My teammate, Karisa and I have had a long and funny history of challenging ourselves with seemingly out-of-reach events, including 24 hour mountain bike races, half-ironman triathlons, and other sorts of endurance-related nonsense. On a whim, we had attended the NW Overland Rally in Plain, Washington in 2018 together and decided to attend a Rebelle Info Session. Karisa declared we would do the Rebelle one day. I assumed it was a half-hearted declaration, but it turns out I was wrong! Since the declaration, she proceeded to have a couple babies, but as soon as they were old enough, she found a renewed sense of interest for the event, and we challenged ourselves to sign up for the 2022 edition. Our vehicle broke down on the way and made it to the start with only 2 hours to spare! Since that moment the Rebelle Rally has become a gift to us and our lives. In 2022, we were X-Cross Rookies of the Year. In 2023, we were given the amazing opportunity to represent and compete for Ford Performance in the 4x4 category. Now we are excited to see what the 2024 Rebelle holds for us!o Why now? As wives and mothers, I don’t know if I believe there is such a thing as “the right timing”, as each year brings its own challenges and 2021 certainly brought us ours. For starters, Karisa delivered a healthy baby girl the first week of May. Ironically, that same week, I found myself in a mountain bike accident that seriously broke my right leg and landed me at the Trauma Center for a week. After several surgeries and physical therapy that lasted the whole summer, I started to walk on my own in October – just in time for my teammate to register us for the 2022 Rebelle (even though she had a new 5 month old!). As it turns out, there’s never a great time to lean into something hard and new, but it’s always worth it! The Rebelle has truly been a life-changing event. We now simply cannot imagine our lives without it.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I love to read, specifically Historical Fiction, Biographical Memoir, and Social Justice. It is in the stories of hardship, war, and adversity that I find inspiration in what people are capable of and challenge myself to grow into the person the world, my family, and I need.

Team Biography

About a year after their first introduction in 2009 Trista talked a naive Karisa into signing up for her first triathlon, without her fully understanding what a half-iron distance really meant, and especially the Wildflower triathlon, which just so happens to be the hardest half iron in the United States. After months of training both completed and rocked it and went on the complete many triathlons after that!

Trista also talked Karisa into a 24hr mountain bike race, Karisa agreed, even though she had never ridden one before. Once again both ladies rocked it and after making it to the finish line Karisa never picked up a mountain bike again.

Then Trista and family bought and kitted out a new Toyota 4Runner. After many successful off-road trips and even a few reconnaissance missions to fuel hungry cyclists with charcuterie on logging roads they fell in love with off-roading!

Trista invited Karisa to attend the 2018 Northwest Overland Rally where they were introduced to amazing vendors and companies involved with off-roading. That’s where they first learned about Rebelle Rally. From then on they were convinced that they would one day be a team ready to run the Rebelle!

They signed up for 2022 and had a fantastic experience and they knew that they had to come back and do it again!

Sara grew up in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She is a proud Nittany lion who received a B.S. in Computer Science at Penn State. With a love of space and a desire to help others, she found the perfect fit at Iridium.
Mali is from Denver, Colorado. She studied Computer Science and Spanish at Washington University in St. Louis before joining Iridium, where she spends her days happily engrossed in satellite code.

Mali and Sara both work for Iridium Communications Inc. As two women engineers, they quickly became a breath of fresh air for one another in the workplace which evolved into a great friendship. Earlier this year, Mali joined Sara on her long road trip to relocate from the east coast to Arizona. In a tightly packed Honda Civic, they thought, if this is so much fun – why not kick it up a couple levels?? This brunette and blonde with an inseparable bond couldn’t be more excited to take on this journey!

Greatest adventure to date?: I've been fortunate enough to have experienced a lot of fun, interesting, educational and challenging things in my life, however 2 years ago I went on a three and a half month, 22,000 miles driving trip around the US. We explored National and State Parks, relearned about Civil Rights, the Civil War, the importance of the boowevil to Enterprise Alabama, the struggles of the early native cultures in the Southwest, the beauty of the forests, rivers, lakes and oceans and the diversity, friendliness and welcoming nature of the people around all these United States.

How I handle different scenarios, mindsets under different types of stress, competing as a rookie with another rookie, as a veteran with a rookie, in X-Over, in 4x4, with only 3/4 eyes, etc. This year is a great opportunity for us to see what our team can do now that we are both veterans and we can both see clearly with both of our eyes.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Ever since my first Rebelle Rally in 2020, I’ve been hooked. There is nothing like the Rally and the environment and the group of people that it brings together. Being in a place full of hard working, determined women is so inspiring and getting to do so across out beautiful public lands is an added bonus! The Rally gets harder every year, and as soon as you cross the finish line, you find yourself saying, “next year I’m going to do x, y, z,” so you’re already planning for the next one! With me stepping away from my full time job to run our CrossFit gym, the finances have been tough this year but it’s making me work even harder to get to the start line, because the Rally means so much to me. I hope that I can continue to inspire others to make it happen if it’s on their wishlist - it’s worth the hard work to get here! This year I’m so excited to be returning with Alex! We had a blast last year teaming up for the first time and had the added challenge of an EV last year. This year we’ll be in her Gladiator, so not only will I be returning with the same teammate for the first time, I’ll also be competing in a Gladiator again, so things will be even more familiar going into the Rally! We’ve worked hard at preparing this year and helping others prepare as well, so we’re excited to see how this year goes and where Emily will take us!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Small business owners. Being one myself for the past year I have so much more respect for anyone who has taken the risk to start/run their own small business. It’s HARD and you get a lot of rejections in many areas, so those who have persisted and gone on to run a successful small business are a huge inspiration for me and have made me go out of my way even more now to support small businesses.

Greatest adventure to date?: Although not a purposeful adventure, being deployed to Afghanistan for a year as an 18 year old was quite the adventure. I learned so much and it really shaped me to who I am today. I was fortunate to be there early on in Operation Enduring Freedom, when we were able to more freely travel the country, so I had many incredible opportunities to explore the northern and central parts of Afghanistan. The country is beautiful and the people are so generous. That experience has helped me continue to travel to seek out experiences and to learn about other people and their cultures.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Back for my third Rebelle! Over the past few years I found happiness for myself in off-roading. The Rebelle is an invaluable part of that journey. The community that surrounds and embodies the Rally is like none other that I've been a part of. The rally becomes addicting. Every year I learn something new. My rookie year I mostly drove. Year 2, I spent more time in the navigation seat and learned a lot of lessons that I want to come back to implement. I’m looking forward to coming back to the 2024 Rally with my 2023 teammate Mandy and a Jeep! It was a huge accomplishment being part of the first privateer EV team to compete in the Rally. We learned a lot about efficiency last year that we can apply to driving the Jeep. I’m looking forward to applying all the those lessons and tricks to be a stronger team in 2024.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Travel and time spent in nature. We take a little bit away from everyone we meet and everywhere we go. I cherish those moments.

Although they only live 40 minutes away, Mandy and Alex found themselves together more out west than they did out East when they first met. Both searching for adventures in a more beautiful, drier climate, they both appreciate the beauty of the west and use every excuse they can to get out there. Living so close they supported each other throughout the 2022 Rally then had the opportunity to partner up in 2023! The 2023 Rally was a huge success for the team, where they became the first privateer team to compete in an EV, which also happened to be Mandy’s R1S Orion. This year they’re coming back together in Alex’s Jeep Gladiator. Coming off a stellar Rally in 2023, they’re excited to team up together again for the 2024 Rebelle.

Who, or what, inspires you most?: My Mom and her adventures inspire me. If only she had her own van vlog...My husband and his never ending ability to show love and push through anything thrown his way inspires me.My kids inspire me for just being in the world today. There is unfiltered, unlimited, immediate access to everything on the internet. It so much (and I am glad it wasn't a part of my childhood). And somehow they are both still well rounded, smart young men, who do not let the influencers influence them. I admire them for getting through years of missed childhood due to covid. And they both still seem happy, whole and motivated to do good things. I love you boys and am proud of both of you every day for finding your own path through this crazy existence.And lastly the sun! Sunrises and sunsets are my favorite. There is something so great about that first sun first beams over the horizon, especially on a crisp, quiet morning away from the city, in ANY terrain. And equally great when the sun casts an orange glow on the world around me as it goes from a blazing bright ball of fire. It seems bigger somehow as it dips behind the Earth. And that last tiny shard of bright light is snuffed out. But the colors get richer, slowly fading into night and twinkling stars.

Team Biography

How it started?

Jenn and Natalie started off as roller derby acquaintances which eventually blossomed into a friendship. They played on the same team for years locally and to some travel games. Jenn, or Squirrel, her derby alter ego, was a blocker. Natalie, Busturr Chassis, was the jammer. The blocker in roller derby will often make a path through the derby pack for the jammer. Funny enough, they fall into these roles as Navigator and Driver for the Rebelle Rally. Squirrel is still making the path while Busturr is pushing forward to score points.

During the throws of Covid and what its restrictions brought for roller derby, both were forced to put derby on the back burner for a bit. While Squirrel still actively plays today, Busturr just drops in for a practice here and there to say hi.

With the downtime from derby, Squirrel and Busturr both turned to their other passion; being outdoors camping and off-roading. When they each realized their other hobbies aligned too, they had a moment like in that movie “Step Brothers” where Will Farrell and John C. Riley looked at each other and said “Did we just become best friends?!?….Yep!!”

And so the outdoor adventures began. They’ve camped in the desert and mountains together. They’ve explored some off-road trails with our own co-pilots (their husbands). They have done an off-road “taco tour” through Baja, Mexico. They have gone on a desert-bar tour with some more friends in Arizona. And they’ve bombed across the Mohave Desert in their rigs set up for camping, trying to keep up with friends that have trucks a little more capable of the trip. And they have even boated together down the Colorado River.

All of this fun adventure-ing eventually led to Busturr asking Squirrel if she wanted to do the Rebelle Rally with her. Neither of them had any idea what they were getting into, except that it was a navigation based competition over 8 days from Mammoth to Glamis. It is SO much more.

So they went to a Rebelle U training in Ocotillo with other like minded women. Some who had previously competed in Rebelle Rally and some checking it out like like Squirrel and Busturr.

Busturr was immediately hooked. But Squirrel needed to consider what she would be taking on. And she also needed to figure out if she would be able to commit to the time and money it would take to compete. It’s not a decision to make lightly. The entry fee is hefty and they would need to spend money beyond that on supplies, training, gear, and to outfit Hank the 4Runner further. But if you’re reading this I bet you can guess the outcome. OF COURSE Squirrel said she wanted to do it!

To this day they pull their derby background into their Rebelle training. An example of this is the term “new jam”. In derby, a jam is one round of the game, similar to a down in football. A whistle is blown, the jam starts and chaos ensues. It’s actually a beautiful skilled dance of blockers and jammers, offense and defense. This is when points are scored as jammers break free of the pack of blockers, and souls are stolen as the blockers work together to keep the jammer stuck in the pack, unable to score for their team. The declaration of “new jam” is something we say to each other in derby as a reminder to let the previous jam go. To start fresh, and make this jam count. To not dwell on mistakes or even the glory of points. Because it is a new jam and you need to focus on whatever the game has to throw at you. In the truck, while training, Squirrel and Busturr will often call “new jam” to move through difficulty. They pull that part of derby into the cockpit of Hank the 4Runner regularly. It is a good reminder of the focus you need when considering your next course of action and how much time you have to accomplish that.

Another thing Squirrel and Busturr have in common is, unfortunately, auto immune illnesses. Auto Immune issues often are vague and hard to diagnose. Often times being auto-immune illnesses are mistaken for other issues and are mistreated.

Busturr has known something was wrong for years, but only recently was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritus. She is often in pain but puts on a brave face and pushes forward. She is currently trying her 4th medication seeking respite from this pain.

Squirrel was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013 when symptoms reared their ugly head causing temporary blindness and paralysis in the right side of her body (luckily that has since subsided, but comes and goes). Like Busturr, she also puts on a brave face and pushes forward. Sometimes our autoimmune illnesses tell us to slow down; sometimes we listen, sometimes we don’t, but we both know that we have to keep pushing forward and we can’t let it slow down our passion for life and pursuit of our hobbies.

Having both roller derby and auto-immune issues that align their past and present, if they do take a podium in the Rebelle Rally, per the rules, the prize money goes to a charity of their choosing. That being said, they would be thrilled to split their donations (if allowed) between Badfish Roller Derby, where their friendship sprouted and also where they learned the true meaning of the word team, AND also to an auto-immune charity that is TBD.

And so Squirrel and Busturr committed to training. They tuned in to watch Rebelle Rally online in 2023. Once the competition was over and the dust settled they very impatiently waited for the link to appear on the Rebelle Rally website. As soon as it did, they clicked, paid the fee, and continued training their butts off.

It’s Kendra Miller’s fault! 😀

Rochelle and Kendra got to chatting at the 2019 NWOR and Rochelle learned all about the Rebelle, then pitched sister Melissa on the wild idea of rallying (which we’d never done before) in our late dad’s ’69 Bronco (which at that point had been garaged for 25 years and had a sapling growing out of the air intake). Melissa’s response was immediate and enthusiastic, “HELL YES!” followed by “…what’s the Rebelle Rally?”

2020 was our first year, and if you think the pandemic was the biggest hurdle, well, you’re wrong. The Bronco needed A LOT of love to be even remotely competition ready. Fortunately, Rochelle’s husband works in the automotive aftermarket industry and had the right know-how and contacts, so we all got to work. We wrenched right up to the rally, even doing an emergency engine swap 2 weeks before the event.

Needless to say, the rally ended up being the Bronco’s shakedown, but in hindsight while it was stressful, it was an awesome crash course in mechanical self-sufficiency and mental/emotional resiliency. At one point, we debated pulling out early because we were spending so much time pulling over to fix things, but our fellow Rebelles wouldn’t let us — they encouraged us and promised to tow us across the finish line if they had to. Ultimately, we finished dead last, but we FINISHED (no towing necessary!), and revelled in the realization that we could do ANYTHING we put our minds and hearts to. It was a big deal for us.

2021 and 2022 went smoother as we got the Bronco more and more dialed, and as our driving and navigation skills improved. We have an incredibly tight group of friends from the Rebelle who we get together with outside of the rally as often as possible, and the confidence we gained from finishing the rally has bled into so many other parts of our lives. It’s been truly life-changing for us.

The best part is that we get the most amazing quality sister time out there — just us, no distractions. Doing this together has deepened our friendship and given us such great perspective and understanding of one another that you just don’t get hanging out in more normal circumstances. 🙂 And we know that our dad would absolutely love that we’re doing this together in his old rig (he adored it, and us obviously). We love honoring him out there.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Thanks to the encouragement and support of colleagues and friends who I’ve met through Overland Expo, the opportunity arose to team up with fellow motorcycle rider, Eva Rupert, and get a little out of our comfort zone on four wheels rather than two. I do not comfortably speak any language that involves numbers, whether that is computer programming or plotting coordinates and using a compass. But, caring for a family member for the past year who suffers from dementia has made abundantly clear that I (and we all) need to do whatever it takes to challenge our brains, build new neural pathways and increase elasticity. I knew preparing for the Rebelle would help me work on this, and it was clear after our first Rebelle this this experience expanded so many neural pathways, but also helped me refocus on what really matters in life.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Anyone who is born with or encounters a physical difference that some might view as disabling and actively chooses to make a positive difference in this world, projecting positivity and hope as they go. E.g. My friend Sylvia Cuberlo Longmire who has traveled through more than 40 countries by wheelchair and helps others book WC-friendly journeys; my cousin, Will, who was born with a brain malformation called schizencephaly and is the inspiration for the WillPower Foundation which raises funds for families with children of all ages who have exceptional needs; my Godfather, Dave, who has been severely hearing impaired since the age of 7 and volunteered for 20 years with the Hearing Loss Association to get folks outfitted with hearing aids; and our friend and sponsor Mark Farage, who was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, and is not only one of the kindest and most intelligent folks I know, but is also making differences abroad in some desperately tragic and terrifying situations.

Team Biography

Azure and Eva have worked together for the better part of a decade at Overland Expo and bonded over a shared love of adventure motorcycles and salty beer. Though they’ve worked closely together in event production, training for and competing in the Rebelle has taken them from being coworkers to lifelong friends. Living on opposite sides of the country has made training for the Rebelle a puzzle in and of itself, involving multi-platform video calls, state-to-state plotting challenges, and strategically planned cross-country trips to drive together in a variety of different vehicles. We haven’t had a single defining moment that stands out, but growing together as a team and recognizing how similar our goals and aspirations are has been extremely rewarding and fun, in and of itself.

Team Biography

Sue and I met 11 years ago when we both joined a local chapter of Sweet Adelines International (women’s barbershop singing organization) and we have been singing together and friends ever since. While rehearsing for a quartet competition in 2018, I told Sue about the Rebelle Rally, meeting Emily Miller at BCOR, and how I would love to compete. Sue mentioned that she had done some navigating with her husband on driving vacations and would be interested in partnering up.

We competed together in 2020, 2021 and 2023 Rebelle Rally and were awarded the International Cup each year.

This year is special as we will be running the rally in memory of Sue’s grandson, River Hyde Nejad, who passed in March 2024 at the tender age of 3 years old. Little River was born prematurely and during his short life went through many surgeries and suffered from neurological difficulties. Our charity of choice this year is the Okanagan Similkameen neurological Society in Rivers honour.

We are Amy, a lawyer and dog trainer and Charlotte, a surgical nurse and drummer. Amy, the driver for Team Tiny Riot, is a car enthusiast who has most of her behind the wheel time in her Ford Mustang but has been getting off-road in her Jeep Hawkeye more and more, getting lost and exploring the roads less traveled. She is a proud dog mom to German Shepherd Radar who is very disappointed there is only room for one co-pilot.

Charlotte, the navigator for Team Tiny Riot, is a mother of 4 and grandmother of 1 from Louisiana. She is probably one of the better drummers under 5 feet tall you’ll ever meet. She loves the beach and has a lifelong dream of living either by the ocean or on the water (no, seriously, in a houseboat ON the water). We both say “y’all” a lot.

Joining the team for 2024 is navigator Lisa DeLuca. Lisa is an accomplished driver and previously competed in the Rebelle in 2022. She is eager to take on the challenge of navigating the Rebelle and becoming a well rounded competitor. Lani returns to Team Dead Rec as pilot of her beloved Bronco, Hank.

Team Biography

We met several years ago through a women’s off-road camping group. We started planning overland trips outside of the group that included our husbands, and our friendship blossomed over morning coffee in the wilderness and sunset hiking wherever we found to camp that night. This is the basis of our team name, Coffee and Roam. Our saying is “Friendship is a cup off Coffee made for you”. We trade off who makes the coffee.
In our first year of friendship, the idea of teaming up and competing in the Rebelle surfaced, but it wasn’t the right time. Avis has since competed twice in the Rally and Lizzy once. And here we’ve circled back around and are excited to compete together.

Team Biography

It all started in Amboy, 2022. Ahhh, the year of the frightening masked child! Shelby has an irrational fear of scary masks, and was by far the masked child’s favorite prey! Rori and Shelby happened to be sitting at the same dinner table, and when Shelby returned from the restroom – running and in tears – an organic, genuine, laugh out loud, connective moment happened. They now thank the scary, masked child for giving the two a good laugh, and a great memory. Their friendship bloomed on night 5 of the 2022 Rebelle Rally. Both lovers of the outdoors, dogs and competition: these two have had a blast becoming friends and better cockpits mates since teaming up in 2023!

This is Samantha and Becky’s fourth year competing in the Rebelle Rally. Early in 2020, a friend told Sam about Rebelle. She followed the preparations of the Rally teams all year and watched the competition in October 2020. Inspired by the event, she quickly asked Becky Brophy to be her teammate, and they started training with Rebelle U to compete in 2021. Prior to this, the pair had very little experience off road, and no experience with map and compass navigation. The 2021 Rally was a huge success for Sam and Becky, returning home with a top 10 finish and “Rookie of the Year” award. Rebelle Rally 2022 was full of new challenges for Becky and Sam but they were able to land a podium finish. For 2023 Rebelle, they earned a stage win in a Bone Stock 4Runner. This year Samantha and Becky are looking forward to expanding their experience with TOTAL CHAOS FABRICATION mid travel suspension in a purpose built 2024 Toyota Tacoma.

Trail Trust/FOX Factory asked myself, being an offroad racecar driver to be their driver, and Ashleigh, one of FOX Factory shocks test engineers to be the navigator. We met for the first time in April 2024 at the Rebelle U training in Ocotillo Wells where we jumped right in and went to work learning how to navigate with nothing more than a paper map, compass, plotting tools, and a calculator! It felt as if we were thrown into the wolves a bit, but it forced us to get to know each other quickly and figure out how to be the best teammates we could be for one another. We decided to take another Rebelle U course in August and that created a great bond between us after we worked day/night over 4 days to take our skills to the next level. We walked away with the confidence we needed to pull up to the starting line of the Rebelle Rally as Team Trail Trust/FOX to give it our all and cross all 8 daily finish lines and become Rebelles for life!!

Greatest adventure to date?: I am lucky to have adventurous friends with whom I have shared some pretty epic experiences. It’s hard to choose one experience as the “greatest” adventure, though the Rebelle is up there at the top of my list. I would say that generally the greatest adventures are the ones that involve some level of “misadventure” along the way. When things don’t necessarily go as planned, and there is an unexpected obstacle that has to be addressed, it is all the more satisfying when you overcome the challenge and can continue the journey. It’s the misadventures that are a true test of character. Plus, these make the most interesting stories 🙂

There’s something about weird old Land Rovers that brings people together…Liza and Jenna became friends as their husbands’ bromance blossomed into a Podcast called the Underpowered Hour, which – of course – is mostly about old Land Rovers. Liza and Jenna share a lot of common interests and experience overlanding in these classic British safari trucks, but until they started training for the 2022 Rebelle, they hadn’t spent a lot of time together. Greatest adventure to date?: It started as a Sunday drive. A fun little winter day trip to Arizona's Verde River the hard way. Just a few flurries expected. On that chilly late afternoon, on the steep side of a canyon, 25 difficult miles from pavement and people, at a not-very-bumpy spot, our Tacoma's spindle knuckle catastrophically broke (you know, the thing that holds the wheel on). We phoned a friend (thank goodness for cell signal there) and with a 3 hour ETA for rescue, had time and tools to disassemble and assess for the repair. We had all the right gear with us for what ended up being an icy and dark hike out to our rescuer (whose truck couldn't quite make it all the way in to us). And after finding the right parts, we returned 2 days later in #sparetaco to shovel new snow and field-repair the truck on the shelf road. If we hadn’t gone that day, we might not have gotten her out until spring. We raced to install the new spindle and then get out before the incoming storm dumped its 40 inches of snow on the Verde rim. We did 27-point turns on that shelf road and winched #sparetaco up over an icy boulder shelf in the dark as the snow started to fall. THAT was the adventure of a lifetime! It's also why our spindles and knuckles now have Total Chaos gussets welded in place! And why #sparetaco now has a rear elocker. Lessons firmly learned! Turns out it was a long-growing stress crack from our years of fun driving that just chose this fun location to finally give way.

Team Biography

Rasa and LeeWhay met and became friends more than a decade ago and have been traveling and overlanding together (along with their significant others) ever since. Their rookie Rebelle Rally, in 2021, was the first time they had ever partnered in the same vehicle together. The rally deepened their friendship and their trust in one another, brought them loads of laughter and fun, and at the finish line, they keep saying, “Yes! Let’s do this again!” 2024 marks their fourth consecutive year of competition together at the Rebelle Rally.

PHXTaco is the Honey Badgers’ trusty steed: a 2004 First Gen Toyota Tacoma, clocking in at 330,000 miles on the odometer this year! This truck has been built for and exercised almost weekly on desert and mountain adventures, and is constant maintenance and refinement mode in its Phoenix, Arizona home garage.

The Honey Badgers are self-designating as a 5020 team this year. Rasa and LeeWhay turned 50, and PHXTaco turned 20!

Rasa has been driving and co-driving PHXTaco all over the desert southwest for 20 years, mostly while looking for historic airplane crash sites, but also exploring old mine sites, watering holes, cool rocks, and epic campsites. She knows where all 4 tires are planted, exactly what her truck can and can’t do, and how to push the envelope safely and with true mechanical sympathy. Rasa has been wrenching on and maintaining this truck alongside her husband since it was brand new, so she knows what’s going on under the hood. By day, she’s a leader at Honeywell Aerospace, but on the weekends, it’s adventure time!

LeeWhay is an experienced world traveler, physical therapist, and homesteader. She is an expert at reading maps and navigating best routes through unfamiliar territory. She is equally comfortable with map/plotter/compass as she is with GPS for route and checkpoint finding. LeeWhay is an excellent off-road driver herself, and an invaluable asset to Rasa when spotting and marshalling are needed in the toughest terrain. She’s bossy in the best possible way when things go sideways, as they sometimes do. Her recovery planning and execution skills are second to none, and always result in forward movement.

Amy and Michelle first met through Amy’s husband. Then during Covid their mutual friend started a virtual happy hour as a way for everyone to stay connected. During those virtual happy hrs is when Amy and Michelle got a lot closer. Amy has known about the Rebelle since it first started has been watching the Rebelle Rally from afar for years, keeping it on her bucket list of adventures to tackle. Fun fact about yourself: I grew up in Ecuador then moved to Milwaukee, WI as a teenager…going from the equatorial tropics to the midwestern winters! I had never seen a high school locker before…had no clue how to open it and use it for an entire semester! It stayed there for 32 years! GO PACK, GO!
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Because my boss said, “Why not now?” In all honesty, I want to prove to myself that I can do this! I turned 50 this year, and I would love to continue to show my kids and grandkids (as well as others) that age is just a number and you can learn how to use a map, navigate, and drive offroad at any age. So, I set the goal of doing the Rebelle Rally this year, and now I am more determined than ever to seeing it through! I am prepared to be comfortable with being uncomfortable!

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: A link to the Rebelle website came to me through a text from Jully at the beginning of 2024…”you in?” Watching the video sent a wave of chills down my spine. The thought that I could be alongside some fierce women, doing things far outside of any experiences to date, created a deep desire I didn’t know existed. The fact that Jully would be my Rebelle partner is what made this new aspiration realistic. It was time to get back to being uncomfortable, so my personal growth can continue.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My parents have always been a foundation of inspiration for me. Their work ethic and drive to support loved ones is unmatched, shaping who I am today. I was raised to not expect life to just hand things to you. You need to work hard for what you want, never settling for mediocrity. You can achieve many great things if you put your mind to something.

Most of my book reading these days including some classics, Llama Lama Red Pajama and The Pout Pout Fish. Being a new mom while working full time there isn’t much available time for watching shows but I do enjoy a good cooking competition or Housewives.
Greatest adventure to date?: My journey to motherhood has to date been one of my greatest adventures. I never knew such a tiny creature could bring so much joy, fear, and love into my life all at once. Proof that magic does exist in this world. The excitement and emotion I get to experience with him, through his eyes, is a blessing.

Our journey began in late 2015 inside of an automotive battery plant. A great friendship started then and continued to grow even as we moved on to different companies. Fast forward to 2022, the year we were brought back together…thanks to Stryten Energy!
Upon hearing about the Rebelle Rally, I immediately knew I wanted Amanda as my partner. She would be the one and only that could handle and understand me! It’s no different than our work environment where we have to make pretty big decisions that make us uncomfortable on the daily. As the Rally approaches, we are experiencing a whirlwind of emotions—excitement, fear, and nerves—yet we remain determined to embrace the challenge ahead. We are driven by the desire to continuously push our boundaries and challenge ourselves. We see the Rebelle Rally as a chance to gain a new perspective, shake off complacency, and challenge ourselves in ways we never imagined.
Our dynamic is – I am more of the big-picture realist and quest for improvement while Amanda is the attention to detail and pursuit of perfection— we think this makes us a great team and lifelong friends! Fun fact about yourself: I managed to achieve the impossible when I capsized a literally unsinkable little sailboat (Optimist) the day before the practical exam for my kids sailing license (I was 10). Definitely a first and our instructor was…well…impressed! Despite that doubtful accomplishment, I still passed my exam the next day, got my license and am somewhat proud to say that I never sunk a boat again 🙂 Lesson learned: you fall down (or sink), get back up, straighten that little crown on your head....and keep going.
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I'm passionate about racing and karting, but off-roading is relatively new to me. I really love the principles of the Rebelle!Why now? I just learned about the Rebelle last year - perfect time to be a rookie!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: The ocean: always there, always different, never ever the same. I've had the privilege to live within driving distance to the Pacific Ocean for 25 years. It never ceases to amaze me, whether it is sunny and warm beach days with my family or rainy and stormy walks with our rescue GSD, Maggie - I always feel content there.

Team Biography

Our friendship began 25 years ago when we met at an event at Stanford University. Introduced by a mutual friend, we quickly bonded as fellow German natives and have been close ever since. Our shared sense of adventure led us to the Rebelle Rally after Heike was inspired by the competitor lineup of the Gazelle Rally in Nice, France, in 2023. Intrigued by the challenge, we did some research, and it didn’t take long for us to decide to sign up.

Our third teammate is a 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, our “little orange Taco.” Chosen for its proven off-road capabilities and reliability, this truck has seen it all. Plus, we couldn’t resist the funky orange color (“solar octane”) that adds a splash of fun to our journey.

As a team, we are perfectly in sync, sharing priorities and approaches to challenges. We trust and rely on each other, understanding the importance of forgiveness and laughter when mistakes happen. While we initially underestimated the mental and physical challenges ahead, we’ve embraced the preparation process with enthusiasm. From learning how to lower the spare wheel chain (and ditching that approach to access a spare tire entirely!) to attending a Ridgecrest Rebelle U course, we are committed to honing our off-road driving and navigation skills.

As rookies in the rally, our goal is simple: have lots of fun, make new friends among other Rebelles and staff, finish the rally, and still be best friends at the end. We carry with us the advice from our training: “Heading and distance don’t lie!” and “Stay focused, methodical, and always have fun!”

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I found out about the Rebelle around the same time I bought my Jeep and introduced myself to the off-road world. A competition that was not a race appealed to my more cautious and precise nature, and I decided I wanted to drive my Jeep in the Rebelle. However, the first time around, it was hard to find a navigator, and I decided in 2019 that it was more important to me to do the Rally, even as a navigator, than to drive my Jeep in the Rally. More recently though, it was time to make my initial vision a reality, and I found a teammate who was willing to navigate this year.

Kimberly and Joanna’s paths crossed at a gathering hosted by a veteran Rebelle. Soon after, they decided to become a team. Joanna, a veteran navigator from the 2019 Rebelle Rally, has always wanted to drive her Jeep Wrangler in the rally. After getting lost hiking in Italy and unable to read a topographical map, Kimberly was inspired to improve her navigation skills, joined RebelleU, and pursued her dream of competing in the Rebelle Rally.

This year, I'm grateful I can have an opportunity to take another swing at this - we plan to take more showers, stay healthy and finish better!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: I'm inspired by people who have successfully reinvented themselves throughout their lives to remain relevant. For example, after a childhood spent in poverty, Louis Hay started her career as a model, however, decades later, in her 60s she founded Hayhouse publishing and ran it until her death 30 years later. What a pivot!

Fun fact about yourself: When I was 8 years old, Gene Cernan, Apollo 10 astronaut/pilot of the lunar module and the last person to walk on the moon visited our home in the Oregon sand dunes. I got to drive him around in the sand in our buggy to help him prepare for driving on the moon. He got stuck, I didn't.
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: We are not promised tomorrow - the older I get, the more I realize I have to be intentional about how I use my time. On January 1 I turned 60, sold my business and now I enter a new phase that will be rich with experiences and connections.When you're in the game, Rebelle requires your full attention. It would be easy to wait until there was time for all of the preparation, but we don't have time - life is now.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Even in death, my mom continues to inspire me. Through the difficult and painful days and nights of cancer, she was always sweet, lovely and interested in other people. Just because you're not having your best day, doesn't mean you get to be unpleasant to others.

We’re a couple of best friends determined to get the most out of what’s left of our lives! We might seem like an unlikely duo because of our diverse backgrounds — the owner of a construction supply company that’s out building bridges and roads (@kwonn6) and a former resort president on the Las Vegas Strip (@rwest702), but we share a common core that has forged an unbreakable friendship – we both love adventures and we aren’t afraid to make mistakes and take risks. Showing up to the rally last year with almost no practice under our belt and a vague understanding of navigation felt like getting a sip of water from a firehose! If you only look at the stats, our lack of preparation showed. But for us, we stay true to our core and crushed our goals – “stay friends, have fun and finish.” This year we’re recycling those goals with the expectation of doing it all better! Although it’s hard to pinpoint how Rebelle changed us- maybe it’s simply realizing that life is now and even when we don’t feel ready, our answer is always Heck Yeah!

From my first rally in 2023 and throughout training in 2024, I have been inspired by the courage of Rebelle Rally competitors, the innovation of the Rally leadership team, and the dedication of the Rally staff in so many ways. Competitors challenge themselves to go beyond their physical, mental, and emotional limits; staff always right there when you need a smile and encouragement; and rally leadership designing a course to challenge all competitors.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: As Peg’s original teammate was cleaning up in her community from the devastation of Helene, as Milton, another CAT 3 hurricane began barreling toward her home. I was asked to step in and take her place, and immediately said yes. I’m excellent in a stressful environment, and after doing foster care for 15 years, I know how to pivot on a dime and juggle whatever is thrown at me with creativity and composure.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My two sisters, Peg and Paula, inspire me. Peg is a brave, bold woman who has never let self-doubt stop her from trying something new. Paula is a resilient woman who has overcome adversity in life and continues to change and grow.

Sister teams are the best! We have been having adventures together since we were kids – from motor-cross riding to sailing adventures in the Caribbean.
Char has helped me prep and practice for the rally the past two years; so she was the natural choice to substitute for Pat Nolan when she withdrew at the last minute due to the second hurricane hitting her community within a couple of weeks.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: Learned about the Rebelle in 2016 when my friend Lisa Wolford competed. She won the x-cross in 2018. I had always wanted to participate but figured once I moved to Florida I wouldn't be able to find someone to compete with, but then Lou found me!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: The world at large. There are so many people out there doing so many cool things. Just want to be one of them!

Greatest adventure to date?: Salin in the Baja Ha-Ha. 14 days that starts in San Diego, California, and ends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The journey covers approximately 750 nautical miles.

We met at an industry event, just after I (Lou) came back from the Rebelle in 2022, and she was hooked! We bonded over our love of the sea, sailing adventures and also, working in a very male-dominated field as captains and yacht brokers, have always had time for each other to wrangle with the intricacies of the job, and the human condition!

Fun fact about yourself: I grew up on a farm in Riverside, CA in the 70s and 80s (the original 714, baby). For my high school biology class, you could choose to do a desert survival trip instead of a final exam. Easy choice - 9 other students and I chose the desert. So I found myself dropped off in the middle of the desert, 15 years old and alone, with a chocolate bar, a tarp, and some water. My only instructions were to find my way back by the next day. That was the first time I had ever been in the desert. And I got an A in the class.
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I heard about the Rebelle in 2023 and was hooked. The combination of the outdoors, healthy competition among strong women doing challenging things, using paper maps instead of GPS, Emily Miller's ethos for the founding of the Rebelle - it all resonated for me. I couldn't stop thinking about it. And if not now, when?
Who, or what, inspires you most?: People who really go for it - whatever "it" is - in their lives. Like my partner Lacy! I'm inspired by people who have the character and humility to learn, to work hard, and aren't afraid to put themselves out there, while also having the presence of mind and sense of community to support others less fortunate.

We are neighbors and both attorneys. Our daughters became fast friends when Shirley moved into the neighborhood 5 years ago. As soon as Shirley heard about the Rebelle, she asked Lacy if she wanted to join her. Without hesitation (good or bad) Lacy said yes. From there they had to figure out a vehicle, learn to drive off-road confidently (safely), and quickly acquire the navigation skills necessary for this challenge. As moms of strong willed daughters we strive to be good role models.

Why now?: As the spouse of a service member, much of my recent life has revolved around my young kids and where the Coast Guard sent us (most recently Alaska and Hawaii before California) so this is a unique opportunity to compete doing something I love now that my kids are older! I adore offroad and I thrive on competition so now that I live on the mainland, I gotta do it! This is my big hurrah before I turn 40 (I guess midlife crisis???? lol). I have managed to make my Ford Bronco my whole personality so it makes sense that I entered to compete in the Rebelle Rally after meeting Shelby Hall (who introduced me to the Rebelle Rally) on a Bronco trip down Baja and then meeting my teammate Gloria on Instagram through our mutual love of Broncos.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: What inspires me is the women who have paved the way for women like myself, who are now able to participate in motorsports, and the next generation of women keeps me going and living out loud on social media so they KNOW these options exist.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: When I served in the Army and worked in law enforcement, I was always around more men than women. When I learned about Rebelle Rally being for women only I knew it was a must for me to compete. To be around other like minded women who train and fight just as hard as you do, is one of the most amazing feelings that not many can say they have truly experienced.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My former commander, CW5 Jeanne Pace, who was the the longest serving female warrant officer, last member serving of the 14th Women's Army Corps Band, and among the longest tenured female Soldier in the Army's active duty component has been someone who inspired me in so many ways. She served 43 years active duty from 1972 to 2015. I’ll never forget one of the things she said to me as a young Sergeant. “Women who served in the Army before you fought long and hard for everything you have now but the fight isn’t over. You are strong and can handle the pressure that you must continue the fight for our future female Soldiers”. She was right.

We met on Instagram! The fact we both have Broncos is what brought us together, but we were drawn to each other from the beginning. Our personalities, our humor, our personal stories and our love of adventure are just a few of the many reasons we get along so well. After the 2023 Rebelle Rally, Megan knew she wanted to compete in the next one. The biggest hurdle would be finding a navigator that matched her competitiveness and complimented her personality. It was after an extremely brief conversation that we realized we each wanted to participate, and with Gloria’s landnav experience from her time in the Army, it was a seeming perfect fit. Within the week we had registered and began the long journey to preparing for the competition and raising the funds to compete. Over time, we discovered we were an even better match than we knew. You would think we had known each other our whole lives!

Team Biography

We met at a meet and greet for women in production engineering interested in the Rebelle rally. Within 2 weeks we had interviewed, been chosen as the Rookie team for Toyota and were on a plane headed to Cali to the Roost for our first Rebelle U training. We learned alot that weekend about the trucks, mapping, the desert wind, and that twizzlers are a food group. This summer has been challenging to say the least. Julia has had some physical challenges that she has worked hard to overcome, because she was not missing the opportunity to compete. While Sheena has been the driving force to get the LC repaired and ready for the rally, her drive, vision, energy and enthusiasm and my hope is her countless hours of lost sleep will be well worth the adventure we’re going on. We are so excited to represent Toyota PE as the rookie team ’24 along side Sam & Becky and Sandra & Myra.

Team Biography

Sandra and Myra met in 2023 at Toyota’s Rebelle Luncheon in February 2023. They both worked with motorsports teams back in college (Sandra with SAE Baja and Myra with SAE Formula) and connected over their shared love for motorsports. Sandra already had experience with Off Roading beforehand, and Myra was completely new to Off Roading but had experience taking her car to the track numerous times.

As a team, they went through equal seat times of training during our first year, and later decided on a set role that best suited each of them. During the rally, they focused primarily on effective team communication and strengthening the basic skills used in Rebelle. Despite the humbling challenges, Rebelle made the team more confident in their abilities to tackle whatever challenges came their way. They are taking this very spirit into the competition this year. Team 182 is beyond grateful to get the opportunity to represent Toyota in this world class event and learn even more about themselves and test their and the vehicle’s abilities.

Carla and Heather both work at Toyota; Carla on manufacturing side, and Heather on R&D side. The two were brought together through a shared interest in competing in the Rebelle Rally with Team Toyota. An R&D leader saw this as a unique opportunity for both mentoring and reverse mentoring by including an executive on the team and connected the pair. They hit it off quick and hit the ground running, meeting in person for the first time at RebelleU.

After a 39th place finish in her 2023 Rookie Rebelle run, Amanda Walden, the Driver of Team 189: Fortune & Glory, signed up to compete again in 2024. In late May of 2024, Amanda found herself without a navigator. The Rebelle Community connected Amanda with Julia Bigwood, navigator and 2-time Rebelle Veteran, dying to compete again. The new duo connected to train together for the first time in Texas, in July, and are continuing to train together in preparation for 2024.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I haven't done what I've wanted to do yet with the Rebelle Rally. We had a good run our first two years, but we still have a lot to learn. This year we're tackling a new challenge in the 4X4 class, and I like new challenges.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My dad. Until he developed dementia, he was always able to overcome pretty much every physical and mental challenge he encountered through patience and persistence. He passed away in January, and while he knew this was a battle he couldn't win, but he fought as long and as hard as he could. I admired his tenacity, and his memory constantly inspires me to push my boundaries and be the best person I can every day.

Team Biography

During the pandemic lockdowns, a small group of women involved in the auto industry banded together to help them make it through the social isolation and their very personal problems that popped up during that time. One was getting a divorce, another was dealing with unemployment and the prospect of upheaving her life, another had a family illness. We created a safe space to cry and laugh — even if it was only on Zoom once a week. We called ourselves “The Fight Club.” Both of us are a part of that group, and during one of the many conversations expressed a desire to do the Rebelle Rally because another two members of Fight Club had just completed it. We decided to team up.

As we got to know each other as teammates and friends, we realized that we each have personalities that match our spouses. We’re both focused on making this a terrific experience and pushing ourselves to be the best we can, leveraging each other’s strengths.

Greatest adventure to date?: Went on a last minute solo trip to Bali. We met through a mutual friend, and after a whirlwind road trip from LA to Seattle early on, our friendship was solidified. Since then, we’ve shared countless road and off-road adventures, international trips, and quirky side quests together, all while embracing our mutual love for adventure.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: When Toyota gave us the opportunity to participate in Rebelle, I was ecstatic. Did I have ANY of the skills needed? Absolutely not. But I wanted the chance to step out of my comfort zone, stretch, and rise to the challenge. Toyota not only gave us the chance to be Rebelles, but they have equipped us with the tools and the vehicle we need to be successful. Also, how lucky am I that Elizabeth and I get to do Rebelle together? We were coworkers, then friends, and now Rebelle teammates. So, the chance to be a Rebelle with a good friend and a good truck was an offer I could not refuse.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: This may be cliche but my mom, Susan, is my inspiration. Her energy and zest for life is unrivaled. She is a lifelong student; she knows no stranger; she understands the needs of those around her then works to meet those needs; she makes the best peanut butter pie. It's a privilege to know her and a delight to be her daughter!

Team Biography

We both graduated Engineering school and started working for Toyota: Accessories Development in 2017. There were only a handful of female engineers in the group and since we started at the same time we were thrown together frequently. We soon found we had a lot of commonalities, but the one we talked about the most was our parents. We were both raised by hard-working, straight-shooting dads and funny, zesty moms. We talked about them a lot, specifically how they influenced (and continue to influence) the trajectory of our lives.

When Toyota presented the opportunity to participate in Rebelle, we both knew we wanted to do this but, more importantly, we wanted to do it together! Our strengths and weaknesses are complementary and we knew our friendship was a good foundation for being a Rebelle team.

Our initial plan was to compete in 2023 but after evaluating our personal and professional schedules we determined that competing in 2024 was more feasible. Toyota supported this decision and we began to plan.

Our first training, April 2023, was eye-opening and only slightly uncomfortable. But that discomfort was key to our growth as a team because it helped us determine who would Drive [Megan] and who would Navigate [Elizabeth]. It’s a funny story… ask us and we’ll tell you about it!

With roles defined, we lunged into studying and preparing for Rebelle. We’ve learned much along the way but understand we will certainly face new challenges daily, hourly, and minutely. We hope to overcome those challenges with grace and persistence. Our goal is to come out of the rally as better friends and more capable explorers.

Who, or what, inspires you most?: I've been blessed to have been surrounded by strong, empowering men in my life and that has. been my inspiration. My Dad, who passed away earlier this year at 93, taught me that I can do anything if I want it, and work hard enough at it. My godfather, who was one of my original Rebelle sponsors in 2016, and also passed away this year, constantly encouraged me and supported me despite the fact he thought my off-roading was extremely dangerous. My husband, who told me I could change careers in my 50's and be successful and then stands right beside me to support me and has shown me what partnership is. All of these things.

Team Biography

Carey and Andrea met during the 2021 Rebelle Rally, and are teaming up for the first time together this year, proudly being the first team supported by Subaru of America. They’ve been close friends since meeting, keeping in daily contact to support each other through life changes and milestones. Competing with different teammates in prior years, this is Shaffer’s eighth Rebelle Rally and Lando’s fourth. They are excited to team up together this year!

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I believe it's an addiction to type 2 fun. It's my 8th Rebelle, and it's always exciting and terrifying to meet who I will be on the other side of it. It reveals all the good, bad, ugly and beautiful so it's not for the faint of heart and can be transformative. Or it can also just be a sufferfest that you survive and live to laugh about later. I'm up for all of it.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: Fear is the best inspiration for me. If I'm afraid of it or it intimidates me, I want to figure it out and try to face it. It's been the motivator of much growth and adventure.

Guidebooks for whatever country I’m about to visit. I have shelves and shelves of them.
Greatest adventure to date?: Riding a mini motorbike across Mongolia for 12 days.

Fun fact about yourself: I first participated in the Dakar Rally in 2003 with no driving experience, no dune driving skills, or navigation knowledge. I felt like a baby learning to walk, falling down, getting back up, and continuing until I fell less often. Surprisingly, my teammate and I, despite our inexperience, drove day and night and finished after three weeks of racing. I have since competed in the Dakar Rally 7 more times.
Why the Rebelle? Why now?: After participating in the Rebelle Rally in 2017, I transitioned to the organizational side. Every day, I witnessed competitors who inspired me, and it reignited my desire to compete again.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: What inspires me most is creativity, the ability to turn abstract ideas into something real. It shows me that possibilities are endless, fueling my passion for learning and creating.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: The Rebelle was on my bucket list since the first year, so when Kia asked me to drive for their team in 2021, there was no hesitation. I love being a part of it every year because I get to connect with amazing ladies, push myself to a new level, enjoy the scenery and be completely present in the journey. I always come back a better version of myself because of it. Can’t wait to team with Kendra this year!
Who, or what, inspires you most?: People who are true to themselves, make a positive difference in the world just by being themseves, keep pushing foward even when it's tough, and folks who push their limits to achieve something seemingly impossible, then discover a world of possibility.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: My first Rebelle was very selfish. Completely about having an adventure, doing a hard thing despite others' concerns, seeing what I was capable of. After that it was about playing a fun game with amazing challenges and inspiring women. This year, Verena & Kia have extended the opportunity to compete in a new to me class and a new vehicle. Really excited for the challenge.

It’s kind of like the 6 degrees of Rebelle. Kendra competed in the first Rebelle where she met and became friends with another competitor, Tana White. A couple years later, Tana would go on to compete with Verena in the XCross class for Kia. After some post stage dinners and some PNW Rebelle meet-ups, Verena & Kendra became friends. 2024 registration rolled around, both Verena & Kendra needed new teammates so they high-fived, Kia tossed them the keys to a Telluride and a partnership was formed.

Why the Rebelle? Why now?: I had the opportunity to attend Rebelle U last year and it planted a seed for me. It was well out of my comfort zone but I absolutely loved it. I made it a personal goal to find a way to compete in the Rally and I have been working toward it ever since. I absolutely love the camaraderie that the competitors have and the empowerment that I have felt with the skills that I have learned through my training and preparation. This is definitely an invaluable experience.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My mom has always inspired me to push myself harder while still remaining true to my values. She was such a great role model for me growing up showing me that I could have a career and still be a devoted mother. She's truly my best friend and she inspires me to be that for my own daughter.

Fun fact about yourself: When my daughter was 16, I had three 16-year-old girls under my roof. My daughter, her classmate that was living with us to finish high school, and a German exchange student. It was during this time I became really good at juggling schedules.

Why now?: It’s a great opportunity to stretch every comfort zone, learn deeply about myself, and acquire lifelong skills.I had been looking for something that would teach me more off-roading techniques, less reliance on GPS, challenge my mindset, and meet like-minded women. The universe presented this amazing opportunity.
Who, or what, inspires you most?: My daughter, Brittany. She is a wonderful example of a daughter, wife, friend, dog mom, employee, and mentor. She is unfailingly my biggest cheerleader in every aspect of life. She is passionate about her beliefs, knows what she wants, and makes a path to success. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve hugged her at the airport as she set off to follow her heart. She is my favorite human.

Who, or what, inspires you most?: Growing up, there were a few role models that helped me choose the nontraditional path through life. Looking back now, I strive to be the person that struck awe in that little girl and encouraged her to pursue her passions.
